Desk & monitor height calculator

A starting point, not a prescription. Adjust by feel once your elbows sit at roughly 90 degrees.

centimeters

Desk height: 77 cm

Chair seat height: 44 cm

Seated eye level: 126 cm

Monitor top (level with eyes): 126 cm

Monitor center: 116 cm

How the numbers are derived

  • Desk height ≈ 44% of your height — puts elbows near 90° for most body proportions.
  • Chair seat height ≈ 25% of your height — lets your feet rest flat on the floor.
  • Seated eye level ≈ desk height + 28% of your height.
  • Monitor top should sit level with your eyes; the center lands about 10 cm below that so you look slightly down rather than straight ahead.

If the numbers feel wrong

Fixed-height desks are usually 73–76 cm, which suits people roughly 165–175 cm tall. Outside that range, a footrest (if your feet dangle) or a monitor arm (if the screen is too low) fixes more than replacing the desk does.
